The DRL
is funded by 100% contributions and is governed by an all volunteer Art committee. The
Mission for this successful art program is to strengthen Art Education in our schools and provide scholarships to students who desire to pursue an Art career. As noted in the web that explains
about Daniel's Art program http://www.Dansinspiration.com
Art education is in serious danger . One danger that is on the way that people can't see coming.
Many years ago I was president of the Santa Barbara Golf Assoc. In those days young golfers
received a card as being in the SBJGA and this card allowed these young golfers to practice on the range and play golf for free. One day the Parks and Recreation Director called me in and said
that the day was coming where young golfers and youth playing in all sports and activities would
have to pay for doing that sport, he explain that the city was spending money for each child and
in the "FURTURE" money just wouldn't be available. In a while that happened. First a fee of
$1:00 was the cost. And look at it today. In the early days the city even paid for uniforms and
all the equipment required for these activities. Forty years later their is a Fee for everything
That's is going to happen for students wanting to study many of the "minor" subjects Art, Dance,
Music, acting, sports, etc. You can bet on it.
There have been communities contact the DRL Art program and can see what it is doing. And
these cities want to know how they can set up similar Programs like the DRL except for there
city. And when the day comes that students will have to pay for minor subjects they will be
ready, because a poor student will have to miss out , but with a DRL type program donations
will provide for students to join and the school or the individual student will not have to pay.
The cities who are not paying attention to this problem will be behind the curve and it will
take much effort to correct. If any one is reading this post an can see the truth and would like to know more details about the program please contact h DRL Art program. The program you
set up in your city will be named for a person or a name of your choice. But it'll be done

Welcome to Daniel's Dream!

Welcome to Blog Jog Day! All you hear about is the
trouble and problems within our education
system today. And what I'd like to do today is share with you educators and interested citizens that go way beyond what is required to make sure our students succeed! When this program first began, what and where it would go was a question. I've worked in the aerospace field all my life and I've worked for some pretty successful companies. But the DRL Art Committee out shines every company I have worked for. Our hopes when considering a art program in Daniel's honor was to offer a scholarship to a graduating art student to be able to attend a college or university of their choice. Those of you that have kept reading this blog or have read "Daniel's Dream" know the story. I won't go into details here but if you are interested, please pick up
"Daniel's Dream" for the whole picture. The DRL Art Committee is made up of art teachers and interested citizens. Art teachers can make grant requests for equipment, supplies, or programs. These grants must be approved by the Committee, and the area that really amazed me was the sincere dedication this Committee gives to every grant request presented to them. First the request must be approved by the Art Coordinator before being submitted to the DRL Art Committee. EVERY request is discussed in detail. Not all grants are awarded. Maybe the teacher will receive part of what was requested. Many types of equipment are requested. The teacher is told where they might receive what they need from suppliers. If our government would follow the DRL Art Committee we' d have much less problems. Many top companies could learn something from these people.

I know I'm going on long, but if I may, I'd like to tell of a grant request that was made. I was
skeptical about this grant. What was proposed was a grant for a child's opera. What was unique
about this request was that the 4th and 5th grade art classes would join together and write this
opera. Well, over 100 students worked to prepare their opera. I didn't think that this could be
done, as I've seen a group of 3 or 4 grownups not be able to agree. Also, the students were to make their own costumes. There would be a seamstress to help. All the sets were to be built by the students themselves. Bottom line, they pulled it off. Marian and I were invited to the opera.

One of the rquirements was that every child had to be in the opera. At the conclusion, every
student stood and took bows and you could see smiles and a personal satisfaction on every student's face. That opera I know will have a major memory for each student. The standing
ovation was unbelievable. What a great success!!

One thing for you to know, all of the DRL Art Committee members are volunteers and 100% of all money donated to the DRL Art Program goes to helping art education and scholarships. If any of you reading this blog would consider a donation, please know that every cent is used for art education. The DRL Art Education and Scholarship Program is a very successful program and thanks to the Cache Education Foundation, DRL Art Committee and all of you.
Please visit HTTP://www.DansInspiration.com and HTTP://www.Danielsdream.webs.com

A Worthy Legacy

A Worthy Legacy - Not for Profit

This is an article published in a non-proit publication

( Many of you may wish to read )

A Legacy, “something handed down,” such as, a million dollar legacy was handed down to the grandson. A legacy of the grandfather's deeds during his lifetime.

This Legacy is a truly remarkable legacy of a young artist and how his Legacy is strengthening art education within a school system.

Daniel was a very sincere and gentle person growing up. He had a very unique ability to “see the whole picture” and “see outside the box.” Daniel was not a grand stander nor was he concerned only about what was good for him. He truly believed that people come in two distinct types, those who feel they come first and those who care about the other person's needs.

Daniel saw during his growing up years many of his classmates who would do anything to win or get what they wanted. He also saw many classmates who really wanted to do well in something but were at the low end of their ability, perhaps because their talent was minimal or some other condition kept them from excelling in their field – maybe it was sports or a certain subject. And, in many cases, he saw these students held in contempt or ridiculed because they didn't meet the standard of others. He himself fit within many of these categories. He was always the smallest in his class and had a difficult time in sports. But no one worked harder than Daniel at what he desired to accomplish.

One of the things he learned early in life was that a person could be great at something and at the same time be a failure at something else. Maybe a person could be a great baseball player but a very poor chess player.

Daniel was the smallest in his class when he went out for Little League Baseball. It was agreed that if he made the team he would stick with it at least for the first season and then he could continue or drop out if he wished. He at least had to give it a good try. Surprisingly, he made the team, as he was very slow and had a difficult time catching the ball. But, the league rules were that every player “must play at least one inning.” And that's what Daniel did, he played the last inning in right field in every game. Of course, this was disappointing to him, but half way through the season the coach realized that Daniel had the best batting average of all the players. When the team needed a “hitter,” the coach would put Daniel in and almost every time he got a hit. But, he still had a problem with catching the ball. The team made it to the championship and Daniel was in right field. It was the last of the last inning, everyone prayed that a hit wouldn’t be go into right field. Daniel's team was leading by one point. The other team was up to bat, they had a runner on base and two outs. Guess what, the batter hit a high ball into right field. Everyone’s heart sank knowing Daniel couldn't catch a ball hit that far and high. But, Daniel ran for this high hard hit ball and caught it! Daniel's team won the championship. You can imagine the accolades and “Hi fives” Daniel received. He was the “Hero” of the game. This just wasn't something Daniel was used to. He was used to getting ridicule from the other players when he didn't catch a ball.

On the way to Pizza for the celebration, Daniel said that he couldn't understand why he was the hero for catching the ball because if he would have dropped the ball, he would have been the worst player on the team and everyone would have hated him. That one instant gave him a perspective for the rest of his life. He strongly believed that sometimes all someone needs is a “break” and just that one “break” can change that person's life. He strongly believed in helping the unfortunate if they were willing to help themselves. Daniel learned that for a whole Little League Baseball season he was “nobody” and was being kept on the team because he had made an agreement to not quit. But, on the last play of that season, he ended up being the “Hero” of the game.

Daniel decided after high school that he wanted to be an artist. He entered a college and because of the high costs, he made up his mind to get a job as well as going to college. With some help from his parents, he received his AA Degree in Computer Animation. He decided to transfer to a university in San Francisco, California for his last two years to get his BFA Degree. The cost was astounding for rent, food, books and materials, bus fare, etc. He got a full time job while attended the university and was getting close to receiving his BFA Degree. To help save money, he moved over to Oakland to save on rent, which were much less than in San Francisco. When he was living in San Francisco, he had to live quite far from the university and work. Travel just one way would be an hour by bus and then walking. In Oakland, the commute was 15 minutes by Bart and he was a block from the university.

One morning, Daniel was walking to the Bart station in Oakland to go to class at the university, he was stalked for two or three blocks and then attacked, shot and killed. It was ruled a “mistaken identity” killing by an Oakland gang member who thought Daniel was someone he'd been in a fight with a week before. Daniel was a gentle and very calm person who had never been in a fight in his short 24 years of life.

This story is about Daniel's Legacy. He was such a unique person, always considering the other person and would give away his sandwich if someone else was hungry. He strongly felt that many students and people just needed some help at times to “make it.” He saw many students who would drop out of the university because they just could not afford to continue their education. Many very gifted, hard working students had to “give up.” One of Daniel's traits was to help others when he had the ability to do so. Daniel had a great ability to think “out side the box” and see the big picture. One of his class assignments will show his “out of the box” thinking.

My Class Assignment

“When I heard of this assignment, I looked all around my house at everything I own for something I own that says the most about me. I could find things that I liked, such as posters, souvenirs from places I've been, or my car. I could explain why I liked these things. I like my car because it's fast and fun to drive. I like this particular action figure because I like the Simpsons. But the more I looked, the more I realized that in a hundred years I don't want to be remembered by the material possessions I owned. I think that if you can be summed up by a physical item, it doesn't say anything good about you. It says you've dedicated your life to something frivolous.

I feel you should be remembered for what you did. You should be remembered for how you changed the world, such as, George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi and Joseph Stalin. Those people were remembered for what they created, the people they helped or the brutal way they oppressed a nation. You can't describe who these people were with some meaningless item. They probably owned something that said something about them, but what they are known for is what they did. So, in one hundred years I want to be remembered the same way, not by my house or car, but by my actions. That being said, the truth is I could nor think of one single thing to write about that could fill up more than a paragraph, so I came up with this ridiculous idea.”

Daniel R. Lynch

This was very much who Daniel was and Daniel has left a Legacy for what he is doing! His life was cut short, so we'll never know what great good to mankind he would have done. But the way he lived during his short life has resulted in an Art Education Program in his memory. Daniel loved the Arts and he witnessed many a fine artist who loved art as much as he did, but for various reasons could not complete their education.

The Daniel Robert Lynch (DRL) Art Education and Scholarship Program is functioning in his memory. It is a 501(c)3 approved program within the Cache Education Foundation and is funded 100% by contributions and a dedicated volunteer art committee to oversee his program. So, Daniel will be remembered in 100 years for how he has helped mankind.

One word about Daniel was that he was an “Exceptional person, a cut above!”

If you would like to know more about Daniel's DRL Art Education and Scholarship Program, please visit http://dansinspiration.com and http://danielsdream.webs.com. Thank you.

By Robert Lynch

Daniels Dream Book

"Daniel's Dream" is now released, So far the feed back has been positive. The one common suggestion
is to "Target " Art students, Art teachers, and other serious admirers of the Art & Artist !
The promotion for "Daniel's Dream " is by word of mouth and has NO specific target. Yes I agree
that people that love the Art World will find the book very interesting, but as Daniel's father I
really wish the general reader would read "Daniel's Dream". Some thing that is very hurtful to Daniel's Mother and I is that he is being referred to as " The student who was murdered in Oakland".
That is the main reason for "Daniel's Dream" is to let the world know the "Real" Daniel" and many
of the feed back has been the surprise the reader has had to learn about Daniel. I get told over and
over that it doesn't matter what other people "think" it's what I think is most important. But
it hurts very much to know Daniel and his challenges and hard work and dedication to hear,
"Daniel the student who was murdered in Oakland", as anyone who reads the book can understand. One important FACT the money from the sale of "Daniel's Dream" is going to
Daniels DRL Art Education program. Daniels DRL Art program is very successful in it's Mission
to strengthen Art Education. But with the economy the way it is ,donations are slower! So the
funds of Daniel's Dream hopefully will let the reader receive something and the DRL receive also. And even allow Daniel's Dream to become stronger.

Thank You for reading Please visit
(http://www.danielsdream.webs.com/ )

"

This is the book cover for "Daniel's Dream." You may purchase it on the website www.danielsdream.webs.com. It's also available at libraries, Amazon and other fine book stores. It's worth the read! For you who are reading this with young children, the one thing that you'll learn from this book is that if your child has a passion for something, they can achieve it with dedication. The one thing that amazed me about Daniel was when he said he wanted to be an artist! Yes, he loved to draw, but the talent just wasn't obvious that he had what was needed. All during his years, he struggled with showing the talent. But his love for art
was unbelievable. With a passion and dedication that was unbelievable he became talented, natural NO, but through hard work and dedication seldom found at this age. Another thing I learned from Daniel was that "YOU CAN DO IT" but you just can't wish it, you have to earn it. The person who impressed Daniel so much that made art was his "DREAM" was Mr. Al
Agnew. Al impressed in Daniel that art took hard work and practice. He wrote on the back of the picture that Dan had purchased that art was just like sports such as basketball to be good at it, you have to practice. Dan took that to heart and "practiced" beyond what I could understand. Yes, he was becoming an above average artist. So when your child or children have a desire or love, maybe you can't see it, but if they work for it they will get it! Easy NO . It can be done. Daniel was living proof of that. I think you'll see that after reading his book. The DRL Art Program is helping other students pursue their dream in the field of art education. I know Daniel would be so proud! Please pass along to your friends about "Daniel's Dream. When Dan introduced me to
Vladimir, as we walked away he said that Vlad was
the nicest person on earth. He thought that
he was so lucky to find such a great close friend

The one thing I'm told is that I should add to
this blog more frequently, That people follow-
ing deserve to be brought up-to-date more
often
I will do my best to do that , right now I'm publishing a book about Daniel and his venture
toward his education in Art and his journey
for earning his BFA Degree. I was going to update this blog when the book was released. But
have decided to give everyone an early update.
the books name is "DANIEL"S DREAM " and for you who knew Dan you'll understand why I
chose this title. The book is in publication and should be released some time in April. We are
working on all that's required, like press release, getting required approvals, setting up a
Web site for his boo etc. The site is in development but can be viewed prior to it's finish
/release Please visit Danielsdream.webs.com The last post was a" downer" for me but this post
and the next after his book is released will be an "Upper" This book is very candid about Daniels
effort and obstacles and his triumphs. I'll leave it at that Thank you for visiting. I would like
to hear back from you. Hope the World is good for you.

Daniel trial status

Daniel Lynch trial results

This post is not one that I want to make. The posts on Daniels blogspot were tell of Daniels world. But sadly this is about about Daniels world. For you who have been following this spot, the purpose was to tell a little about Daniels life accomplishments . Daniel has not been with us for over four (4) years and his
Art program is in its forth year.
After waiting all this time for a trial date, we have been informed that the person who killed Dan made a plea to "voluntary manslaughter" By finally making plea
he will be given a 16 year sentence in Federal prison with a reduction of time to be
served reduced by four (4) years because of time all ready served !
The sad part of this is that he had admitted to the detective that he shot Dan.
Oakland being so over burdened with crime, has to hire private attorneys to be
a public defender. When the ( for money) public defender met with the killer,
they entered a NO GUILTY plea. So a trial was set. The original trial date was
scheduled for November 8 2008. But the public defender put a delay for the trial
to be determined at some later date. Finally a new trial was set for this November
the start date to be determined !. Then the Voluntary manslaughter was made.
Our justice system is broken !. If your a person that is charged with a crime and
your innocent then our system is in favor of the accused and that's the way it
should be. But in Oakland and in most cities in this country the person being
charged and the ones that are actually Guilty over (95%) plead NOT GUILTY.
And they most likely receive a tax payed attorney to defend them ! All a defense
attorney has to due is convince one juror that all facts are less that 100% and the Guilty goes free. If the crime had no witnesses , no DNA, any good attorney can create reasonable doubt that's what their taught in Law school !. I hate to be this negative, but there should be some additional penalty for a person that has pleaded NOT GUILTY and is in fact found GUILTY. A person would think hard if they were guilty and knew if found guilty would have additional time etc. to serve.
My next post will be more up lifting, I'm sorry for the negative tone of this spot.
But a wonderful young man lost 50-60 year. , No wife, children, career that he
was working so hard for. and the killer gets to be in prison only 16 years.Ive
always been very supportive of out criminal justice system. YES it is a very GOOD
system if your wrongly accused ! But the way it works now it's very BAD.

Daniel's Art Program Update

It has been way to long since I've brought you up to date on what's happening. The Daniel Robert Lynch (DRL) Art Education and Scholarship Program is doing much in the area of strengthing Art in our schools.

Daniel's webpage is being visited from around the world with added interest. One area of concern has been with as many of hits it received, the contributions received are disapointing.

I had a review made by a professional in web design and fundraising. His advise was to cut down on the site content, that it is too busy for expecting contributions. He noted that the site was very well done and interesting, but a bit too complicated for the purpose of asking for donations. He recommended that we keep the site "as is " and create a different site just for requesting contributions.

As Daniel's site was originally designed just for the memory and honor of Daniel, the area for asking for donations was not being considered. Daniel's site is very popular for what it's original intent was and therefore it will stay the same. We have had another site implemented for the contributions. The site is http://www.drlarteducationprogram.com/.

To bring you up to date on the DRL Art Education Program, many teacher grants have been awarded for art supplies, equipment and program activities. One thing that has become evident is that the schools just don't have the funds for teacher to do special art projects and activities. It is a well known fact that students learn far better by doing than just listening to a teacher lecture. The Drl Art Program recently sponsored a "Childs Opera." This was such an amazing project. The 4-5 grade classes wrote the opera themselves, not just one or two of the students, but ALL of the students had a hand in to the script. Talking about "getting along" and agreeing on something, then after they wrote the script, they had to build the scenery, actually build and draw all the scenes for the play. Then, with the help of a seamstress, they designed the costumes. After that, ALL the students had a part in the OPERA. It was amazing, and those children will remember their efforts for all their lives. It was so impressive to see the opera and what a great job the students did in all areas. The DRL Art Program was so proud to be able to help in this type of effort. Also a Total todate 6 Scholaeshipa have been awarded to Students

Action Required

This is a computer-generated picture done by
Daniel, we have this as our screen saver and it's awesome! I know that the subjects I write about on this blog are about things that I'm concerned and interested in, and many of you may not find these subjects interesting! But at least this is an outlet and a way to express my feelings.
Today the Supreme Court made a ruling about
"Gun Control." I've always been in favor of the
folks being able to have a gun if they wanted one. After Daniel was shot and killed by a hand
gun, I have very conflicting thoughts about the
right for the citizen to own a gun. Along with
that "Right" comes "Responsibility." The argument for the Right to Bear Arms is for personal protection, hunting, etc. and I'm all for that, but they tell us that being able to drive a car is not a right but a privilege. So to have that privilege we must pass a drivers test and obtain a license. But to have the privilege to own a gun, you go out and buy one and use it, unless you intend on concealing it, then you need a permit. The person that shot and killed Daniel had a prior conviction of having an unregistered gun. But he got another one and took Daniel's life. Daniel was killed in 2006. There were 15,000 + homicides in the United States. We, as a society, cannot be so insensitive to accept all these murders as acceptable. It's going to get much worse before it'll ever get better. 15,000 lives are gone, but we must have the "Right to have a Gun?" To have this privilege we must also use
"responsibility" of gun ownership. This problem is not going away, but we, the citizen, can demand corrective action, otherwise, society will just keep going the way it is. Just think how many precious lives have been lost!

Thank you for letting me spill my gut on this subject. I can see no solution until the masses get mad and demand action. Many of you I'm sure have differing thoughts on this subject and I'd welcome a dialog on the subject! Many of our cities are "out of control." Jjust last weekend in Oakland, California, they had 7 homicides! In 2006, Oakland had 148 killings and 2008 looks worse at this point! That's one city in the U.S. If it was a baseball team or a corporation, the manager would be fired and and a new manager and coach would be hired and corrections would be mandated. But we just keep the management team in Oakland and instead of losing ball games were losing lives! Life is so precious, whole families are destroyed. But we, the citizen, have the "Right " to have a gun! Yes, I should have the right to have a gun because I'll be responsible, the other guy won't. S hould we both have this right? And what about Daniel's right to pursue life, liberty, and happiness! Let me know your thoughts on the subject, I'm very interested in your opinion...

Potential Problem To Beware

It's been awhile again in making an entry into this Blog..... I would like to alert all readers
to a silent happening in our schools which is happening "under the radar." It concerns ART.
Our schools have been given the edict to strengthen math and science education, we are way behind other world countries in math and science. School budgets are strained to there limits,
so Art budgets are being cut in many schools. It's not only art, but many other minor subjects are being cut or eliminated. We all know that we need to improve our core subjects, i.e. math and science, but not at the expense of ART. If we allow art to become a casuality and fall behind the curve in our education, we, as a nation and society will pay dearly in future generations. Many people and maybe you think "big deal, so our kids will miss painting some pictures." Art education is way more important than "just painting some pictures." Studies show that art education enhances the development of the part of the brain that strengthens the capability to reason, be innovative, be creative, to do critical thinking and "out of the box" concepts. It will have an extremely negative impact on future generations if de-emphasis on art continues. Art development is greatly needed by today's students. Become involved if your child's school is or has downgraded or eliminated art education! Stand up and alert other parents, DON'T allow the school board and administrators downgrade or eliminate art from the school curriculum. It's a stealth problem and society won't realize what happened until it's too late.

I would like some feedback if this is happening in your schools and if you have taken action to correct this problem.

Magnificent Blackman

This is a picture of the "Magnificent Blackman" that Daniel drew. It was honored with special recognition in a gallery showing. Daniel was very proud of this drawing and it shows
his talent was becoming stronger, as was his love for the arts.

The Daniel Robert Lynch Art Education Program is up and running. We have a strong dedicated art committee that has
just selected and awarded the first annual Daniel Robert
Lynch Art Scholarships. Because of the quality of the applicants, the committee awarded two (2) scholarships.

Emily Wilson, was one of the winners, Emily has committed herself to the arts and is planning to make it her career. Her
academics and work ethics are outstanding, her portfolio
was exceptional. Emily will be successful in her life's venture.

Haley Glenn, was the second winner. She has a strong
life foundation that guarantees her a very successful future.
Some of the things we read about today's youth, gives us pause for the future of this country. After reviewing Haley's application and all the other applications for scholarships and reading about their journey to this point, we, as a country, don't have a thing to worry about.

All we read and hear is the negative regarding our youth. However, the vast majority we never hear about would put a pride in our hearts. The vast majority of our young people are living their lives in a manner that would make all of us proud. We are very proud of Haley and Emily and will be following their successful careers.

The Presemt Day message

Hope the new year finds everyone well and happy. Ran across a cute vignette the other day and would like to share it with you. We plan for tomorrow and reminisce yesterday and complain about our lives at the present. We're never satisfied.! Maybe this little story will put your life in perspective..I hope it can...
Two men, both seriously ill, both occupied the same hospital room. One man had a bed by the window and could sit up and look out, being confined in his room for a very long time he looked forward to being able to look out side and view the beautiful park below and all the children playing and the couples walking along enjoying themselves.
The other gentlemen in the bed without a window so loved it when his partner would
describe the goings on the activities and the beautiful landscape of the park. Actually that was
his only thing to look forward to. Day after day the gentleman by the window described the sighs and sounds to his bed ridden friend for he know how much this experience meant to him. When they see young lovers walking along it would bring back memories of their own youth. Even though the one man could not actually "see" the sights and sound that were being described to him he could "visualize" them as if he could "see" them. It brought him such joy and peace..
One morning the nurse came in to check on her patients and there she found the man by the window had passed away. She called the orderlies and they came to remove his friend and partner
from the room . The man was sad but knew that would be him in a short while. He requested the
Nurse to let him change to the window bed. She agreed and the orderly got the bed ready and helped the gentlemen to his new bed by the window. He was all smiles. when he looked out the window all he could see was a concrete wall! Dumbfounded he asked the nurse, he didn't understand ? All those beautiful stories about the park the kids playing, the young lovers. He was flabbergasted, he didn't understand. He asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said " Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you! ............... There is a great moral to this story that There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared , is doubled. If you want to feel rich and truly be rich count all the things you have that money can't or couldn't buy. And you have many.... " Today is the GIFT " Because
that is why it is called " THE PRESENT"

For Parents

A tired father came home late one night... and in the door was his young 5 year old son waiting to greet him, the young boy had a deep look and serious look on his face. The father asked..".Something wrong son"?, the little boy looked perplexed and walked away with his head hanging down. The father couldn't get over his sons actions and asked his son again "if anything was bothering him". The little boy looked up at his father and said " Dad, how much do you make an hour? The father looked at him and said
" son that's really not any of your business and you should not ask that kind of question". The little boy said " I just want to know ,please tell me, how much do you make an hour? The father was getting a little irritated, and said O.K. if you must know I make $50.00 per hour, "OH" the little boy said with his head down. then he asked "Daddy can I barrow $ 25.00."? The father got upset them, "if the only reason you asked is so you can borrow some money to buy silly toys or some other nonsense, then you can march straight up to your room and go to bed." The little fella hung his head and went up to bed. After about 1/2 hour of fuming about what his son had done, he decided to go up and ask his son why he wanted all that money, he had never asked for money before. He walked into his sons room and asked " son are you asleep"? The little boy looked up with tears in his eyes " No Daddy" The Dad said "I've been thinking and I would like to know why you asked for all that money?"the son said will Daddy I have $ 25.00 saved and showed his father the money he had under his pillow, the father got angerer.
" You already have the $ 25.00 and you asked me for some more! Shame on you". With tears rolling down his little face he said " No Daddy I just want to buy an hour of your time".... " Please come home early tomorrow I'd like to have dinner with you" I know it's a cute story but has so much truth. With our busy schedules and excuses we don't think about what means most to our children. please stop and Think, if your don't your child will miss the best of his youth, they don't need any more toys etc. They need YOU !!!!! And the money your making will never make up for the loss !1

New Information - Artists

NEW INFORMATION

We will be adding to this blog information regarding the art world, tidbits of news and we will feature various artists. The mission statement of Daniel's art and education program is to
promote art and to help young artists. The majority of artists featured will be student artists. From time to time, we
may have professional artists featured.
Today's artist is AYESHA ALLICOCK who
is from Guyana. She is studying art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Ayesha was a very good friend of Daniel. I predict that we will all be hearing about Ayesha in the furture. The picture is of TIM who also was one of Daniel's good friends. This is not a photo! It is a painting. Great art!!

Daniels Inspiration

It has been awhile since I've made a post. Been really busy with Dans scholarship
Fund. I will bring you up to date on the progress that we are making. Would really like to
request that you strongly consider a contribution, In doing your taxes, many times it makes sense to make a donation to a charity other than give the money to our wasteful Government. At least you know the 100% of your donation goes where you want it to go!

We still haven't heard any information from the Academy, on if they will be offering a Daniel Robert Lynch Scholarship or not, doesn't look like it! It's a shame because Daniel really liked the Academy and this years graduating class, Daniel would have been receiving his BFA Degree, But in my mind he had earned it by his tremendous effort he put forward and the beautiful way he lived his life.

On to the progress of Daniels Scholarship Fund. We have received some nice
donations, although were about a third of our goal, but as my wife keeps reminding me . "It has been only a few months" and that's something I must remind myself often

As I mentioned in an earlier entry, Daniels Scholarship Fund was accepted by
the Cache Education Foundation. In meeting with the art teachers, it was recommended that
a Total Art program be initiated. With the tight school budgets, Art education classes are being cut because of the emphasis on strengthening math & sciences. I do believe in expanding our
math & sciences , but not at the expense of our Art education. During that meeting the
The Daniel Robert Lynch Art Education Program was born. the program s mission is to
strengthen Art education, it is a multi faceted program and will attempt to provide a brief overview. It will help with much needed art supplies, sponsor field trips to galleries and museums to encourage art appreciation. Encourage visiting Artists to impart artistic technique
as will as art appreciation. Sponsor art clubs and other meaningful ventures to help the interested student understand various art mediums and information regarding a career in the Arts. the art teacher working in concert with the school counselors help identify those art
students that are " at-risk of not graduating are falling short academically or socially in meeting college/university acceptance criteria, buy offering individual corrective measures through tutors/mentors. Provide scholarships to disadvantaged students whom posses a talent & interest in pursuing an higher Degree in a career in the Arts. This program will be a success because of your help. If you wish to contribute to the Daniel Robert Lynch Art Education Program please visit www. cacheeducationfoundation.org Also Daniels site
www.dansinspiration.com Thank You for taking the time to read this blog!!

Earthflight

This picture was one of Daniel's first
computer generated pictures. I have this as our screen saver. As previously mentioned, Dan had a great appreciation for art and he would go to the galleries around San Francisco and view and analyze works of art. Recently, I ran across a couple of extra credit assignments for one of his art appreciation classes. Both were his critique of two paintings of artists in the 20th Century period. The first was
about the artist Maxfield Parrish's
Idiot. Maxfield Parrish did many of the covers for the Collier's Weekly
Magazine. For those of you who are not familiar with Mr. Parrish's works, I recommend that you do a little research about this famous painter and look up the Idiot painting. I'll return to the Idiot in a moment. Daniel's second critique was the Mirror by George Tooker. I also recommend research on the Mirror. Daniel's critique of the Idiot was very insightful for he felt that the title of the Idiot did not fit the painting, as the painting is of a man dressed in different cloths and is reading a book. Dan's reading of the picture was of a man, maybe even a genius, because he had found something so simple yet it makes him happy. This in consideration of the fastest period in technologically with the introduction of the airplane, automobile and with WWI in the near future, maybe society should let go of technology, politics, religion and just read a book. "Nobody has ever been killed by a book." Dan disliked violence, one year later to the month, Daniel was shot and killed while listening to Music on his way to class at the University.

The Artist Quote

This is a picture of Dan on his way to or from his
Art class at the University. Here he is in the lobby of the Hotel Triton saying "Hi" to his friends at work.
I had a couple of interesting discussions with people
regarding Daniel's quote, "My inspiration is Art....
Because with out Art we would just be stuck with reality." Someone told me the other day that the quote didn't make sense. Then I had another discussion with an Art teacher and she had the same
appreciation for it that I have. Being Daniel's Dad,
I'm very proud of this quote and anyone that knew Dan would know its relevance.
Art is imagination, creativity, and a dedication that many of us who are not artists have no appreciation of. Most of us think that Art is a picture someone
drew. Some we like others don't do anything for us.
If you'd had the opportunity to sit down with Dan,
you would have come away with a different appreciation of the picture, the Artist and much more. I was at an art gallery in San Francisco
and Dan was looking at a piece of Art, studying it hard, I said to him that the picture "didn't
do anything for me." He said, " Dad, look at that picture....." and he explained what the Artist
was saying, he told me all about the artist and the picture's content. All of a sudden, I saw the picture in a new wonderful light, and I truly enjoyed it! In our life we see Art everywhere, the
the architect, the landscaper, colors on building, paintings, sculptures. Without Art, opera, orchestras, we would be stuck with our every day routine (reality) without any pleasure or enjoyment. Think about life with cold block gray buildings, no landscaping, just block & concrete. etc. Most of us take this beauty for granted, and don't give it a second thought. Without Art we would just be stuck with our everyday reality. The Artist gives us inspiration and more. Our schools must provide our students with this appreciation of the Arts and the students will be better citizens for it. Remember the next time you get bored with your daily routine, think about art and all the pleasure it brings. Please think of Daniel's quote,
"My inspiration is ART.....Because without ART we would just be stuck with reality," no beauty, no color, we would just exist... in our own reality.

An Awesome Time

This was one happy time for Dan.
He just met his first milestone goal.
As a gift from his parents, Dan had the thrill of flying in the World War II
WARBIRD plane. He and the instructor went up and did fighter maneuvers along with some acrobatics. The instructor even let
Dan take over the controls for a few minutes. This gift was for Dan's obtaining his first milestone of getting his AA Degree in Animation. Dan felt he was on his way and was at the half way point toward his BFA Degree in Computer Animation. Shortly after this period Dan's life changed dramatically.

While leaving the Taco Bell after having lunch, a big SUV van came accelerating out of a parking lot and hit Dan's car in the right front section of his 1971 Chevy Nova. Dan ended up in the hospital for sometime with head injuries. The sad thing about this incident was that Dan had been so excited about his schooling and that he was past the mid point of his education. Dan was out of schooling for three months, so that meant he could not graduate with his class. Because of the accident, Dan's prized Chevy Nova was totaled! He and a friend had worked over a year rebuilding on that car. It was Dan's first car, a beautiful classic. All of this caused to Dan became very depressed. At this point, Dan was seriously thinking about dropping out of college altogether. But, his desire and love of art and his chosen occupation field was paramount, so he decided to transfer to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. There he found a second home had many good friends and was doing well in his schooling. He told his parents that his move to San Francisco was one of his best choices and his dream goal was VERY close.

With Daniel's Scholarship Program, I know Dan would be very proud to be helping other students obtain their dream! Dan's website is going to be updated with a new Newsletter about what is happening in the arts field. And, this is a way to communicate with Dan's friends and website visitors. So, please come back to visit from time to time.

A beautiful quote "THE LENGTH OF OUR LIFE IS LESS IMPORTANT THAN ITS DEPTH,"
by Mary Fisher.

All size contributions are welcome and will help in assuring Daniel's legacy.

DANIEL LYNCH

I have had requests to include a picture of Daniel other than his pictures of when he was a young.
I did not realize that I had done that, I was thinking that Daniels website included many of him as he was in his grown up years. He would have loved to have been able to see the new movie. With his studies in computer animation
it would have met so much more to him.
This is the picture of Dan! Originally we had hoped to establish the Daniel Robert Lynch Scholarship Program with-in the Academy of Art University. At first things looked promising, but because the Academy is a private University they did not qualify for 501(c) 3 IRS Tax exemption status. That situation eliminated the possibility for any donations to Daniels Fund. We are attempting to have the Academy name one of their in-house Scholarships in Daniel Honor & Memory. Will keep you up to date on how that proceeds.
As of now The Daniel Robert Lynch Scholarship Program is being offered through the Cache Education Foundation and is set up as a 501(c)3 Tax Exempt contribution and is for disadvantaged students to pursue their education & love in the Arts. Recently an art teacher told me that many of her students past ,present, and in the future will never have a chance to go to college because their families "are poor as church mice" and will never go to college with out a scholarship! ( This is the situation in every community in America today) Because of the cost of a college education these days only the" well to do," or a student or their family get in dept for thousands of dollars. If your family is" poor as church mice" they cannot qualify for a student loan to pursue their education in the Arts. I would like to request from any of you who are reading this to consider a contribution no matter how small. Any and all contributions large or small are more than welcome. Some of you may know of a company that contributes each year for tax reasons, would really appreciate it if you could pass along the word about Daniel Scholarship Program. Our Goal is modest, for Daniels Scholarship Program to become
perpetual we are shooting for $ 55,000 by next March. We have had some contributions and we have $1,400 toward the $ 55,000 goal. It is very gratifying to receive a donation no matter how small ,it's the thought that counts andit is slowly inching toward our Goal. This week we received a $1,000 dollar check from Mr. Sullivan, what a generous gift and really helps toward in meeting our Goal. Thank You Mr. Sullivan! All this may sound trivial to some of you, but if you knew Daniel, and the way he lived his life, you'd understand. He never had enemies and liked everyone, with his big Grin. He deserves to be remembered as he lived, he was the type of individual to give you the shirt off his back if you needed it .And he does not deserve to be just a statistic in the city of Oakland.
Thank you, Daniels father. Please visit Daniel website. www.dansinspiration.com Information is noted on the site how to contribute. Than You for reading all this!

The story just published about Daniel's Pond somehow I made a boo boo and the picture on the right was covered by Dan's pond. Anyway those of you following Daniel's story deserve to have the complete picture, so here are a couple more pictures of Dan and one of his fishing buddies and their "catch". This post is an afterthought because of the goof on Dan's picture so if you will allow me, I'll continue with another vignette about Daniel and the farm life. We had a BIG Charlotte Bull that ruled the ranch. He was very aloof as most bulls are unless you caught his attention and it didn't please him. Daniel was the only person on this earth that he would warm up to. When Dan came to the fence he would walk over to Dan and let him stroke his nose, anyone else came around the fence he would ignore them. It was a very strange bond between Dan and the Bull. The Bulls name? I can't remember, one of these days it'll come to me. We all would get a big kick about Dan and "his" Bull. The farm has many wonderful memories, that hopefully some day I'll recount.

Thanks for listening...

Danny's Pond

This was Daniel's pond on the family ranch. Dan would daily fish the pond and some days would catch 5-7 bass. The pond was over 70 years old and had many size bass. One afternoon Dan was fishing and snagged a " Big " one, he fought and fought to bring it into his dock, but his pole was bending almost in two. He yelled for his dad's help. His dad was on the tractor and couldn't hear him calling. Finally, the fish broke loose and Dan's heart sank. He ran up to his Dad and excitedly told him about the fish! Dad got down from the tractor and sure enough the line was broken. Daniel called the fish "Killer " and everyday he would go to his pond and take his fishing pole and fish for "Killer." The fish in the above picture is NOT "killer" that was a common size bass he usually caught. We'd like to say that they were Killer's babies!
After awhile, Dan started a catch and release fishing style and later in life Dan said he was very glad that he hadn't caught Killer because if he lived that long and was the King of the pond he deserved to live and not be caught.

Later in Daniel's life he became very fond and protective of wild life and wanted to protect all wildlife. He believed that just hunting for the sport of it just didn't make sense. If you or your family needed food, then that was acceptable. Daniel loved his pond and the farm as did the family and we all wished that we would have stayed on the farm and lived the good, hard, way of life that a farm requires. Dan liked San Francisco, but the farm was his love.

Dan's personality

Watch out Big Brother !

One of Dan's personality traits was his ability to enjoy life... He was a very lay-back type of person who never raised his voice, his temperament was calm, his demeanor was always in control. He loved to tease his friends, always playing jokes or tricks. Dan's wit and smile were his trademark. Dan had an ability to think outside the box. Many times in a discussion about a subject, he would bring out a logic that was astounding and would greatly add to the overall topic. Another of Dan's traits was to not let discussions get into arguments. He would let you have your point of view, he would consider all sides and come to his own conclusion, usually it was the correct one.

In all of Daniel's short 24 years, I never saw him mad. Sure, he would get upset, but I never heard him raise his voice in anger, he was always in control. He truly had no prejudices. Dan had the uncommon ability to look at the inner person, not their nationality, social status, physical looks or appearance, but at the real person. He had a dislike for the phony, braggarts or the bully, he could read the real person, it was uncanny. The irony of Daniel's death was that he was attacked and killed by an illegal alien and Dan would have been the first person to be able to see and feel their plight.

By Daniel's smile you would know him.

Thanks for listening.

On of Lifes lessons

I'm about 4 years old in this picture. That's my fort my Dad and I just built. I can look down in the valley below and no body can see me! This is my own special place.

Years later when I was in class in my grammar school I had an experience that helped shape some of my attitude about "acting before you think."

I had a ketchup bottle, not a real one but one that looked like a ketchup bottle but was plastic and had a string coming out of the top, you know, the kind you find at a hotdog stand! At parties and with friends I'd have this ketchup bottle and pretend to squirt the ketchup out of the bottle on a friend. It was only the red string that came out of the bottle. We'd laugh and laugh and had more fun with that! One day I took my ketchup bottle to school. The teacher was late so we were all talking and having a good time and I took out my ketchup bottle and squeezed it on a girl. She screamed and then realized that it wasn't real and we all laughed. The teacher rushed in and saw the ketchup bottle and demanded
that I bring it up to him! He told me that he would keep the bottle until the end of the year. Why did he do that? All he had to do was tell me to put it away. That experience had a lasting impression on me. I didn't have the bottle anymore to have fun with my friends. As I grew older I would see people fly off the handle and accuse people of doing this or that. I learned to "think before I act."

At the HotelTriton, their was a mistake(human) on a customer's bill. The customer would immediatly accuse the hotel of cheating, when all they had to do was point out the mistake and a simple correction could have been made and all would be normal. Many times I witnessed similar situations where if someone had just calmly asked or inquired about a situation everything would be fine. To all my friends reading this, don't jump to conclusions. Life and friend are precious, slow down, enjoy life!

King Triton

The story behind this picture drawn by Daniel Lynch is interesting.
While studying at the Academy of Art University, Daniel worked nights and weekends at the Hotel Triton in San Francisco. (www.HotelTriton.com) Daniel really liked working at the Triton as it has many suites designed by famous artist and entertainers. For you who want to rub elbows with the stars, the Triton is the place. Daniel worked as a Guest Representative and liked the staff at the hotel very much. It was a fun place to work. Daniel loved art so much and the hotels decore theme being that of the Arts fit his personality.
In the lobby is a sketch book that is for the guests to comment, draw pictures or whatever about their stay. In the guest book Daniel drew the picture featured above, King Triton of the Sea, in the book and entered his quote "Art is my inspiration...Because without Art we would just be stuck with reality."

One problem with writing in a blog, you don't know if any body is reading your writings. Hope someone is enjoying these vinettes about Daniel. If some of you would like to know more about Daniel, please go to www.dansinspiration.com. Thank you for your interest in hearing about Daniel and his journey. In the next issue I'll offer some more tales about Daniel.

Daniels Story

This is about a young boy who discovered the wonderful world of Art when he was eight years old. Danny lived on a farm in Missouri and loved all the animals; the cows the deer, the turkeys, but one little critter really caught his fancy. A fox had a den in one of the ledge cliffs and Dan would watch the mommy fox go in and out of her den. One day, Dan was looking at the local newspaper and there was an announcement that a local Missouri artist was going to have a showing. In the article was a beautiful painting of a fox, it was a picture of "his" fox on his farm. He wanted to go and see that picture. The gallery was about an hour from the farm. The family packed up and made the journey. Into the small gallery he ran and there was the picture of "his" fox.

Looking around the gallery at all the wildlife pictures brought a smile on his face. The artist, Mr. Al Agnew, talked with Dan and answered his questions. Dan asked his Mom and Dad if he could buy the picture of "his" fox. Daniel purchased the artist proof of "his" fox and Mr. Agnew signed the picture on the back and wrote that in doing anything worthwhile requires much practice if you want to successful at what you are doing. Danny was all smiles and that experience and picture literally changed his life.

Many years later, found in his school papers was an assignment that Dan had written. The form type questionnaire asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Danny's answer was, "An artist and a good golfer like my big brother." From that time on, Dan drew and drew, his talent was questionable at times, but he never lost his love of drawing.

Thank you for visiting Daniel's story. Hope you come back to Daniel's "Rest of the Story."
